interpretato, diretto e prodotto dall’altrettanto leggendario attore Franco Nero
di cui Russell Crowe ha detto alla recente Mostra di Venezia “E’ il mio mito;
l’attore che ha ispirato la mia carriera”.
HOT NEW ITALIAN STAR HIGHLIGHTS
FILM FESTIVAL IN WASHINGTON, D.C., OCTOBER 11-16
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Appearances by hot new Italian heartthrob Raoul Bova, who is coming to an ABC television sitcom in January after winning international fans in Under the Tuscan Sun, highlight an Italian film festival that will bring cinema leaders from both sides of the camera to Washington DC, October 11-16, 2005.
Nearly twenty new films will be shown during the 4th Annual Washington, Italia – the Italian Film Fest to be held mainly at Loews Cineplex in Georgetown.
Films of Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni also will be highlighted as actor Armand Assante (The Mambo Kings, Gotti) will be present to introduce their work and describe its worldwide influence.
“The festival will bring together directors, actors, the best new Italian productions, and classic films for six days of screenings, discussions and premieres in order to promote the new Italian cinema and renew interest in its great masters,” said Pascal Vicedomini, the festival’s founder and producer.
In addition to the screenings, festival participants will hold seminar sessions with students at leading universities in the nation’s capital and meetings aimed at increasing the distribution of Italian films in the United States.
Bova will hit the American sit-com schedule on ABC as a boy-toy husband in “What About Brian?” The comedy, presently scheduled for Monday nights at 10 p.m. EST following the Monday Night Football season, revolves around plots to find a wife for the brother-in-law of Bova’s character, Angelo.
Bova played Marcello, the young café owner with whom Diane Lane’s character in Under the Tuscan Sun has a romance. He has been described by some as the new Mastroianni. Bova will be scheduled for personal appearances during the festival.
Festival-goers can compare Loren and Mastroianni, as well as both sides of matrimony, by attending Divorce-Italian Style (1961), and Marriage Italian-Style (1964). Other classic Loren films and her recent television film directed by the legendary Lina Wertmuller also will be featured.
The off-screen list of notables to be in attendance includes Roberto Faenza (Jonah Who Lived in the Whale), one of the finest contemporary directors in Italy. His 2005 film about a priest fighting the Sicilian Mafia, Alla luce del sole, is already winning awards.
The film festival will be held in conjunction with the National Italian American Foundation gala October 15 at the Washington Hilton Hotel. The foundation is a cosponsor of Washington, Italia, which is organized by Capri in the World Institute in collaboration with Italian film companies Cinecittá Holding and RAI Trade.
Other organizations active in the festival include the Lazio Region of Italy, Promuovi Italia, the Chamber of Commerce-City of Naples, and the Italian Ministries for Italians in the World and for Cultural Assets and Activities.

ITALIAN FILM FESTIVAL
Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo
Schiavo – Oscar Winners for Their Work in The Aviator – to Be Spotlighted at 2005
Italian Film Festival in Washington, DC;
Franco Nero Premieres His Newest
Film
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two Oscar
winners for their work on Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator, Dante Ferretti and
Francesca Lo Schiavo, will be spotlighted at an upcoming Italian film festival
that also will present the world premiere of actor Franco Nero’s newest film, Forever
Blues.
Ferretti, winner of last winter’s Academy Award for art direction, and Lo
Schiavo, whose Oscar is for set decoration, are among a star-studded array of
Italian and Italian-American cinema leaders who will attend the 4th
Annual Washington, Italia – The Italian Film Festival October 11-16 in
Washington, D.C. All screenings of films are free and open to the public on a
first-come, first-seated basis.
Ferretti has just completed Brian De Palma’s latest film, The Black Dahlia, a true story about a
gruesome Hollywood murder set in the 1940s, scheduled for release in 2006. He
also was president of the jury at the just-completed Venice Film Festival.
Ferretti and Lo Schiavo are to introduce Martin Scorsese’s My Voyage to Italy on October 15 at 11
a.m. at Loews Cineplex.
Nero, known to American
audiences as Sir Lancelot, the biblical Abel, and a lonely gunfighter in a
spaghetti western, will showcase his directing and writing talents with the
premiere of Forever Blues, the
poignant story of an autistic boy and an old bluesman.
Nero will be present for the
premiere at the opening of the festival designed to promote ‘’Made in Italy’’
movies in the United States. He also is slated for other appearances during the
festival. Forever Blues will be shown
at 7 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 11 and again at 11 p.m. Saturday Oct. 15 at Loews
Cineplex in Georgetown.
Nero says the film is ``driven by my lifelong passion for Blues as well
as my passion and values for helping our disadvantaged youth.’’ He adds that it
``is particularly relevant in today’s world of tragedy and
uncertainty.’’
Nero debuts as a director with
Forever Blues as well as co-writing
and starring in it. His many past acting roles have included Lancelot in Joshua
Logan’s Camelot, Abel in John Huston’s The Bible and the
gunfighter dragging a coffin in Sergio Corbucci’s Django.
The movie is among about 20 new
films from the country that gave us La Dolce Vita and Two
Women. Festival promoters hope some of the new offerings will become as
popular in America as were those two classics.
The festival ``forms the ideal
bridge between Italy and the United States of actors, directors, producers and
crafts leaders,’’ said Pascal Vicedomini, founder and producer of the
festival.
Most screenings will be held at
the Loews Cineplex in Georgetown, with discussions, meetings, receptions and
other social events at Georgetown University, The University of Maryland, the
Washington Hilton, the Italian Embassy and Café
Milano.
Supporting actor Frank
Pellegrino and producer, writer and director Kevin Jordan will attend the
premiere of their new film, Brooklyn
Lobster, on October 13 at 9 p.m. at Loews.
Films of Sophia Loren and the
late Marcello Mastroianni also will be featured, with commentary on their work
and its significance in movie history.
The film festival is being held in
conjunction with the National Italian American Foundation gala October 15 at the
Washington Hilton Hotel. The
foundation is a cosponsor of Washington, Italia, which is organized by Capri in
the World Institute in collaboration with Italian film companies Cinecittá
Holding and RAI Trade.
Other organizations active in the
festival include the Lazio Region of Italy, Promuovi Italia, the Chamber of
Commerce-City of Naples, and the Italian Ministries for Italians in the World and for Cultural
Assets and Activities.
